Question
Consider the following situations a. A car is moving along a straight road at a constant speed b. A car is moving along a straight road while slowing down. c. A car is moving along a straight road while speeding up d. A hockey puck slides along a smooth (i.e, frictionless) icy surface e A hockey puck slides along a rough concrete surface f. A cockroach is speeding up from rest h. A rock is thrown horizontally, air resistance is substantial i A rock is aropped vertically; air resistance is negligible j A rock is dropped vertically; air resistance is substantialExplanation / Answer
In my opinion -
Option (b) and option (h) are the correct answers.
My explanation is that, take the case of a ruuning car. When the car slows down, means its velocity is decreasing and ultimately its velocity becomes ZERO. So, at point C, the velocity is dreasing to zero.
In another example of the case of throwing a rock horizontally, if air resistance is in substantial amount then it will oppose the motion of the rock in horizontal direction. But downward acceraltion 'g' is always constant and act in vertical downward direction. At point C, it clearly defines this type of situation.
