Question

Can you please explain to me how to solve this problem? I'm not quite sure how to approach this problem.

3. The X-Men (plus Magneto) are at baseball practice. Storm hits the ball and in the process charges it to-10C. At the apex of the ball's trajectory (ie, when the ball only has horizontal velocity-in the +z direction), Magneto uses his magnetic abilities to change the trajectory of the ball. If the ball experiences a downward force, what direction is the magnetic field created by Magneto? List all possible options.

Explanation / Answer

Considering Velocity as horizontal directed towards right along +X direction.

Using formula for Lorentz Force as F = q (V X B), therefore to create a downward Force, Magnetic Field should be present in the horizontal plane, making an angle greater than 0 degrees and less than 180 degrees with the +X Axis
