Observe the diagram above and answer the following: (this is an intrinsic semiconductor) Despite a finite value for the Fermi-dirac distribution, why isn't there a carrier concentration between Ev and Ec? Why is there a (1-fp(E)) factor in the hole concentration equation and just a fp(E) factor in the electron concentration equation? If this were p-type material write the expression for the ratio of the new hole concentration to the intrinsic hole concentration.
