Question

An inversion heterozygote has the homologous chromosomes with the following genes: b. UV ABCDEFG and uveabfedcg A. Is this a paracentric or pericentric inversion? B. Draw how these two chromosomes would pair in prophase 1 of meiosis. Remember that each will consist of two chromatids at this stage. C. On the drawing above, draw an X to indicate a cross over between non-sister chromatids occurring between genes D and E. Now draw the four gametes, which result from this cross over. Write the alleles on each gamete.

Explanation / Answer

(A) pericentric inversion is a reversal of the normal order of genes in a chromosome segment including parts of a chromosome at both side of the centromere. so, it is not pericentric inversion. it is paracentric inversion and it do not involve centromere.
