Question
In the figure, forces A B C and D each have magnitude 50.0 N and act at the same point on the object.SInce i can't copy paste the figure i will describe it.
there is a point P
forces A B C and D all share the same vertex
there is a distance of 20 cm between point P and the vertex of A B C and D
forces A and B form an angle of 60 degrees
Forces B and C form an angle of 30 degrees
Forces C and D form an angle of 60 Degrees
a)What torque (magnitude and direction) does A force exert on the object about point ?
b)What torque (magnitude and direction) does B force exert on the object about point ?
c)What torque (magnitude and direction) does C force exert on the object about point ?
d)What torque (magnitude and direction) does D force exert on the object about point ?
e)What is the total torque about point P ?
Explanation / Answer
there is a point P
forces A B C and D all share the same vertex
there is a distance of 20 cm between point P and the vertex of A B C and D
forces A and B form an angle of 60 degrees
Forces B and C form an angle of 30 degrees
Forces C and D form an angle of 60 Degrees
u didnot mention the angle that any vector makes with the horizontal.
i am assuming A is horizontal (in the same line of AP)
hence,
torque due to A is 50sin60 * 20cm = 53Nm = 8.66Nm
torque due to B is zero
torque due to C is 50sin30 * 20cm = 5Nm
torque due to B is 50sin90 * 20cm = 10Nm
therefore total torque is 23.66Nm
