Question

A convex spherical mirror has radius of curvature of 19
cm. Choose the answer below that best describes the image
that is formed by an object that is located 3.0 cm in front of the mirror.

a) real, inverted, magnified 7.7 x and is 271 cm in front of the mirror.
b) Virtual, erect, magnified 0. 76x and is 2.28 cm behind mirror.
c) Virtual, erect, magnified 0.60 x and is 3.0 cm behind mirror.
d)real inverted, magnified .19x and is 2.64 cm in front of the mirror.

Please solve problem and show steps. I dont know how to solve so the please show equations and how you solved. thanks

Explanation / Answer

we use mirror formula, 1/v + 1/u = 1/f u = object distance = -3 cm focal length = f =R/2 = 19/2 = +9.5 cm now, 1/v + 1/(-3) = 1/9.5 Image distance = v= 2.28 cm Magnification = M = -v/u = -2.28/-3 = 0.76 As magnification is positive, image is upright and also as v is positive image is behind mirror, Option - B is correct !!
