Question

Map A voltage is applied to the "RLC circuit shown. The values for the components are given below, and the voltage supplied to the circuit is this: v(d -90.0sin25t-7.6) 189 ? 3.42 UF 44.3 mH Answer the three questions below, using three signifcant figures. Part A: What is the "rms value of the applied voltage? Number Part B: If the frequency of the applied voltage is increased, what happens to the value of... .. the resistance? the capactive reactance? O It increases. O It decreases. O It remains the same the inductive reactance? O ncreases O ecreases. O It remains the same O It increases. It decreases. O It remains the same

Explanation / Answer

Part A

Vrms is given by:

Vrms = Vmax/sqrt (2)

Given values are:

V(t) = 90.0*sin (25t - 7.6)

Compare it with standard equation

V(t) = Vmax*sin (wt + phi)

So,

Vmax = 90.0 V

Vrms = 90/sqrt 2 = 63.64 V

Part B

Resistance does not depend on frequency

It remains the same

Inductive reactance is given by

XL = w*L = 2*pi*f*L

So we can see that inductive reactance is directly proportional to frequency,

which means if we increase frequency then inductive reactance will also increase

Capacitive reactance is given by

XC = 1/(w*C) = 1/(2*pi*f*C)

So we can see that capacitive reactance is inversely proportional to frequency,

which means if we increase frequency then capacitive reactance will decrease.
