Question

Consider three lenses with focal lengths of 25.6 cm, -15.7 cm, and 10.0 cm positioned on the x axis at x = 0 m, x = 0.383 m, and x = 0.510 m, respectively. An object is at x = -122 cm. Find the location of the final image produced by this lens system (in meters). Find the magnification of the final image produced by this lens system.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong but I'm thinking it may be errors with units? I looked at the other answer for this question and it didn't help. I've tried -12.0 m, 11.7 m, and -22.7 m. Please help!

Explanation / Answer

Use lens formula- 1/v-1/u=1/f u=-122 f=25.6 solving v=32.4 cm again it acts as image for 2nd lens it is 383-32.4= 350.6cm far from second lens again using lens formula- 1/v-1/u=1/f puting u= -350.6; f=-15.7 we get v=-15 cm again this would work as image for lens 3rd dist of image from lens= (510-383)-15=112 again using lens formula 1/v-1/u=1/f taking u= -112 ;f=10 solving, finally we get v=+11cm so final image is 11cm from 3rd lens or at x=+(510+11) = +521
