Question

Can someone please explain if I got the right answer!

In the circuit shown in the figure (R1, R2, and R3 are three resistors of different values) R3 is greater than R2, and R2 is greater than R1. Which of the three resistors has the lowest power dissipated? The power dissipated in R1 is the lowest. The power dissipated in R2 is the lowest. The power dissipated in R3 is the lowest. The power dissipated is the same in R1, R2 and R3 The power dissipated is the lowest in R1 and R2.

Explanation / Answer

Yes the right answer is B because power dissipated = voltage*current and least current goes through R2 and also voltage across R1 and R2 system is lesser as compared to R3 because R3 > R2 >R1. So, R2 has least product of voltage and current. R1 has same voltage across it as R2 but more current passes through it as it is lower resistance compared to R2.
