Question
In a certain metabolic disease, a mutant form of the enzyme has impaired activity. You’ve just developed a new drug that enhances its activity, and hopefully will ameliorate disease symptoms for the patients, who often die young. This will be the first drug therapy available for sufferers of this disease, and you know the parents of these children will be thrilled.
Your drug was designed as a modified analog of a cofactor for the enzyme. In your presentation for the doctors and families, you will be sure to explain the drug’s_____________activation type of mechanism.
Explanation / Answer
Cofactor is non proteinous constituent in number of cases which are bound to enzyme to make the enzyme catabolically acyive. Catalytic activity is lost if cofactor is removed or missing and thus cofactor plays a crucial role in catalytic activity of the enzyme which is provided as modified analog of cofactor in the drug.
