Please Help

The position of a particle as it travels along the x-axis is shown in the following figure. Assume the drawing is to scale and use it to answer all the questions below. 2.5 times 4 = 10 What is the average speed of the particle between t = 1 s and t = 4 s? What is the magnitude of the average velocity of the particle between t = 1 s and t = 4 s? At what value of t is the speed of the particle equal to zero? How does the instantaneous speed of the particle when t = 2 s compare with its instantaneous speed when t = 4 s? In a relay race, runner A is carrying the baton and has a speed of 2.80 m/s. When he is 25.0 m behind the starting line, runner B starts from rest and accelerates at 0.0800 m/s2 . How long afterwards will A catch up with B to pass the baton to B?

Explanation / Answer

2a) speed = total distance / total time

= 2.5 + 0.5 / 4-1 = 1 m/s

2b) velocity = total displacement / time

      = 2 / 4-1 =0.667 m/s

2c) t =3 sec

2d) at t= 2    = + 2m/s   in +ve direction

t = 4   = - 2 m/s -n -ve direction

4) 25 + 0.08t^2/2   = 2.80 x t

0.04t^2 - 2.80t + 25 = 0

solving quadratic eqtn

we get t   = 10.51 sec
