Let's presume that the goal is to collide two protons as shown in Figure 1 in order to produce two new particles called "X" Each X has a mass of 5 times that of a proton, so its rest energy is Em(X) = 5Mpc2. Note that in Figure 1, just like in the lecture, the scale of energies is in units of the rest energy of the proton. As emphasized in the lecture, don't forget the rest energies of the beam protons! How much kinetic energy should each beam have in order to not only produce two X's, but also to have 2Mpc2 worth of kinetic energy left over so they can move once they are produced?
