Estimate the "on" resistances of the p-channel and n-chamel output transistors of the 74AHCT00. Rn(on) loL(maxTTL) 6. Determine the RC time constant for each of the following resistor-capacitor combinations: (a) R = 100 , C = 50 pF (c) R-47 , C=47 pF (b) R-4-7k2, C-150 pF (d) R=1k2. C-100 pF 7. Which would you expect to have a bigger effect on the power consumption of a CMOS circuit, a 10% increase in power-supply voltage (VDD) or a 20% increase in internal and load capacitance, C.? Note: the dominant power dissipation (Po) in a CMOS circuit is given as Where, f is the frequency of operation.

Explanation / Answer

This is quite a decent question. Although we can solve question easily by data sheet provided.

Question 6

I t is given that:

Vdd=5Volts

Rp(on)=(Vdd-Voh(min TTL))/Ioh(max TTL)

Rn(on )=Vol(max TTL)/Iol(max TTL)

From given data sheet

Voh(min TTL) for AHCT

=3.8V

Ioh(maax TTL)=-8.00mA for AHCT

Putting in above formula we get =(5-3.8)/(8x10-3)

=150 ohms

Now , Rn(on )=Vol(max TTL)/Iol(max TTL)

frm given Sheet for AHCT

Vol(max TTL)=0.44V

Iol(max TTL)=8mA

Putting in above formula ,

Rn(on)=0.44/8x10-3.

=55ohms.

Question 7

Now We know for RC time constant is given as :

T=RC.

Hence ,

a) T=RC

1pF=10-12 F

=(100x50)x10-12 seconds

=5nano-seconds

b)T=(4.7x103)(150x10-12)

=705nano-seconds

c)T=47x47x10-12

=2.209 nano -seconds

d)T=103x100x10-12

=0.1 micro-seconds
