Explanation / Answer

Please note that the charts and tables for the given circuit has been interchanged because

1) In the forward bias condition, the voltage drop across the diode is very less (approx. in the order of mili volts) and the current is limited by the resistance of the circuit.

2) In the reverse bias condition, the voltage drop across the diode is approx. equals to the source voltage and current is of the order of 10-9A.

In the chart & table 1 has to correspond to circuit 1 and similarly, the chart & table 2 has to correspond to circuit 2. But on concerding the values given to don't agree to it. Therefore, please interchange the values before preceeding.

Calculations (to be included in reports)

Before answering to problems, first draw the charateristics curve by taking the values of Id and Vd.

1. Static Forward Resistance (also DC Resistance) is defined as the ratio of DC Voltage to DC Current. For If=1mA, from the graph find the value of voltage corresponding to it and take the ratio of it.

2. Dynamic Forward Resistance (also AC Resistance) is defined as the ratio of change in voltage to change in current. For If=1mA, draw a tangent at this point. With the help of this tangent, find two set of values for voltages and their corresponding current. Find out their differences and take the ratio.

3. Static reverse resistance is also defined as the ratio of DC voltage to dc current but in the inverse characteristics. It is, generally, of the order of Megaohms. To find the static reverse resistance corresponding to VR=5V, find the reverse current and take the ratio of it.

Questions (to be answered in the reports)

1. For the maximum source voltage the maximum current should flow, therefore, from the chart & table 2, the maximum source voltage is 12V and voltage drop in the resistance of 1Kohm is 11.587V. Thus, voltage drop across the diode is 12-11.587=0.413V

2. If the temperature raises by 10 degC, the forward current increases by twice the value, thus, the forward characteristics becomes more steep.

3. The resistance of the digital multimeter in 10Megaohm, this resistance is much larger for static forward resistance but is comparable for the static reverse resistance. Therefore, the presence of digital multimeter, will effect the inverse characteristics.
