Question

Consider the endosymbiosis theory for the origin of the mitochondrion. How did each endosymbiotic partner benefit from the relationship? The host cell provided carbon compounds for the endosymbiont; the endosymbiont made them polymerizated. The host cell provided a protected environment and carbon compounds for the endosymbiont; the endosymbiont provided increased ATP from the carbon compounds. The host cell provided a protected environment for the endosymbiont; the endosymbiont provided carbon compounds. The host cell provided a protected environment for the endosymbiont; the endosymbiont provided the host with oxygen for respiration.

Explanation / Answer

Endosymbiotic theory proposes that the two organelles mitochondria and chloroplasts(which are now a part of Eukaryotic cell) originated as a separate prokaryotic organism were taken inside by these cells as ENDOSYMBIONTS.According to this theory ,primitive host cell (eukaryotes) which carried out anaerobic respiration by glycolysis, where the energy production was not sufficient. The eukaryotes started mutually beneficial relationship with bacterium in which eukaryotes (Host cell) provided protection and nutrients to the prokaryotes(Endosymbionts) and in turn, the prokaryotes(Endosymbionts) supplied additional energy to its eukaryotic hosts through its respiratory cellular apparatus.

So answer to the above question is "The host cell provided a protected environment and carbon compounds for the endosymbionts;the endosymbiont provided incresed ATP from the carbon compounds"
