Rank the brightness of the bulbs from brightest to dimmest. Explain your reasoning (Be sure to mention any given information that you use in your reasoning. ) A wire is now added to the circuit as shown in figure (b) below Does the brightness of bulb C increase, decrease, or stay the same? Explain. Does the brightness of bulb A increase decrease or stay the same? Explain Does the brightness of bulb D increase, decrease, or remain the same? Explain The bulbs in the original circuit are replaced by identical resistors with resistance R. Find the current through resistor D in terms of the current through the battery ibattery If R = 2 Ohm and epsilon 0 = 6V, find the current supplied by the battery and the power dissapated by resistor D.

Explanation / Answer

a) A > D > B = C because of the magnitude of curent power will be high as power is proportional to I

b) i) Decrease. because current always flows in less resistence resistor.

ii) Increase . because the equivalent resistance of the circuit decreases. so current increases.

iii) Decrease. now current equally divides in both B and D. so current decreases in D, so less power

c)

Req = R + (2R | R) = 5R/3

current = V/Req = 3V/5R

current in D = 2*ibattery / 3= 0.66*ibattery

d)

Req = R + (2R | R) = 5R/3

current = V/Req = 3V/5R

ibattery = 3*6 / (5*2) = 1.8 A

iD = 1.8*0.66 = 1.188

power = i^2 * R = 2.822 W
