Question

A sinusoidal transverse wave travels along a long stretched string. The amplitude of this wave is 0.0859 m, its frequency is 2.41 Hz, and its wavelength is 1.71 m. (a) What is the shortest transverse distance between a maximum and a minimum of the wave?

(b) How much time is required for 65.1 cycles of the wave to pass a stationary observer?c) Viewing the whole wave at any instant, how many cycles are there in a 32.1-m length of string?

Please show the work at how you derive the answer in as simplified form as possible.

Explanation / Answer

A) distance is lamda/4 = 1.71/4 =0.4275 m...

B) time period =1/frequency =1/2.41 =0.414 sec....

time taken for 65.1 cycles is 0.414*65.1= 27.012 sec.......

C) each cycle length is 1.71 m.....

in 1 m 1/1.71 cycle are there and in 32.1 m......(1/1.71)* 32.1 = 18.78 cycle
