Question

CHAPTER 6 Parallel Circuits 97 of 2.8 A. If branch 1 has a current flow of 0.9 A and branch 2 has a current flow of 1.05 A, what is the current flow through branch 3? 7. Four resistors having values of 270 ?, 330 ?, 510 ?, and 430 ? are connected in parallel. What is the total resistance in the circuit? 8. A parallel circuit contains four resistors. The total resistance of the circuit is 120 ?. Three of the resistors have values of 820 ?, 750 ?, and 470 ?. What is the value of the fourth resistor? 9, A circuit contains a 1,200 ?, a 2,200 ?, and a 3,300 ? resistor connected in parallel. The circuit has a total current flow of 0.25 A. How much current flows through each of the resistors? 6. A parallel circuit has three branches. An ammeter is connected in series with the output of the power supply and indicates a total current flow ACTICE PROBLEMS

Explanation / Answer

6.Total current I = 2.8 A

I1 = 0.9 A

I2 = 1.05 A

I3 = ???

So current I = I1+I2+I3

I3 = 2.8-(0.9+1.05) = 2.8-1.95 = 0.85 A

I3 = 0.85 A

7. given resistors 270,330,510,430 ohm

so 1/R = 1/270+1/330+1/510+1/430

= 0.011ohm

8. Total resistance R = 120 ohm

R1 = 820 ohm , R2 = 750 ohm

R3 = 470 ohm R4 = ???

1/120 = 1/820+1/750+1/470+1/R4

1/120 = 0.00468 +1/R4

1/R4 = 0.00833-0.00468

= 0.00365

Therefore R4 = 273.97 ohm

9. Given 1200 , 2200 ,3300 ohms

toatl current = 0.25 A

here Rt = 1200*2200+2200*3300+3300*1200 = 13860 k ohm

Current through 1200 is I1 = 0.25*2200*3300/13860 K

= 0.13 A

current through 2200 is I2 = 0.25*1200*3300/13860 K

= 0.07 A

then finally current through 3300 is I3 = 0.25-(0.07+0.13)

= 0.05 A
