Mini Project 4 - Urban Ecology
Mini Project Urban Ecology
Conservationists spend their lives trying to find new ways to protect the environment from overpopulation. The displacement of plants and animals continues to be a major threat to our environment. It is important that each of us understands the effects of overdevelopment because in the long run, the decisions we make now will affect the future of the world we live in.
Case Study:
Five years ago you moved to an up-and-coming area in your city. When you moved there, the neighborhoods were surrounded by vast wooded areas. Recently, you’ve noticed that the wooded areas are being removed to make way for new housing. Many animals are getting hit by cars or found roaming around the neighborhoods in search of food. You’ve decided to create an Urban Ecology Program in your city and ask the city government to protect the remaining forest areas.
Using the library or the Internet, thoroughly research established urban ecology programs in the United States. Create a mission statement that outlines your proposal to preserve the natural habitat around your area.
Your mission statement must show a thorough understanding about the topic and your mission statement must have a well-thought-out plan.
Explanation / Answer

SInce more than half of the world's population is city is living in the city and suburbs and the humans share this urban habitats with other species. The main focus of this study is monitor the health of resources of the urban environment like water flow, wildlife, vegetation and open spaces and their responses to pollution and development pressures.
Mission of the urban ecology programmes:
Protect these urban resources like vegetation, water, wildlife and use them safely and efficiently without overexploiting them.
Provide education and awareness to the youth in schools and colleges so that they can activitely participate in these programmes and encourage others to conserve the environment.
Enhance these natural areas and protect the surrounding waters of the area
Practice environment responsible behaviours so that we can set an example for others.
Encourage people to plant trees because trees protect our environment from pollution and the global warming effects by absorbing the CO2 emitted from the atmospshere. Also trees are a souce of food and shelter to animals as well as human beings
Offer opportunities to learning, volunteering and recreation so to promote the community building
