Question
Assume that the average human adult requires 2000 kilocalories per day to sustain all normal processes and maintain a constant weight. If manufactured solar panels could somehow provide power directly to the human body, what size solar panel would be required (in cm2)? Assume there are 10 hours of sunlight per day, and that the usable energy output for a typical solar panel is 850 kJ/ft2 per hour.Note: 1 kcal = 4.184 kJ
1 ft2 = 929.03 cm2
After converting to kcal/cm^2 I got 3.83 kcal/cm^2. I'm not sure if that's correct. Also, I'm not sure if im supposed to then divide the 2000 kcal by 24, since there are 24 hours in one day or by 10. Please help!
Explanation / Answer
total energy required by human being=2000 kcal=2000*4.184=8368 KJ energy supplied in 10 hour should be equal to total energy required energy supplied in 10 hour=850/0.92903 *size*10=9149.32 *size size=8368/9149.32=0.914 m^2
