Please answer and explain question 2
apter 21: Epigenetics Folate is a source of S-adenosyl Low levels of maternal folate levels during growth of the placenta and uterus, and intrauterine growth retardation. methionine (SAM), which is used to supply DNA methyltransferases with methyl groups. pregnancy are associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery, poor 1. Where do pregnant women normally get folate? 2. identify the specific changes that are caused by DNA methyltransferases 3. Explai n the series of events that would occur with low levels of folate that would influence fetal growth.Explanation / Answer
DANA methyltransferase enzyme is the enzyme that transfers methyl group from a methyl donating molecule to DNA molecule. The DNA methyltransferase enzyme usually uses S-adenosylmethionine molecule as a methyl donor molecule. Methyl group is usually added to the Cytosine nucleotide in a DNA sequence. These methyltransferase enzyme regulate the expression of Gene through epigenetic modification. DANA methyltransferase enzyme also has a major role to play in genomic imprinting. Methylation of the upstream region of the gene can either silence the expression of the gene or it can activate the expression of the gene. Activation or repression of the gene expression depends on the nucleotide sequence at which this methylation occur.
