Volcanoes are most powerful and land changing events, having both the characteristics of building and destroying things which include,
1. Creation of fertile soil: Soil produced by the volcanism are rich in soil nutrients, this includes a variety of minerals to the soil that is important for plant growth, this soils can retain water for the longer time allowing to be used by vegetation. Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, and Italy are the best examples.
2. Volcanic Gases add water to the earth: About 70-95% of all the gases that are emitted by any volcano during an eruption is water vapor.
3. Volcanoes can be the refuge for plant and animals: As the steep inclination of the volcanoes can act as the refuge for the plants and animals in the area where humans have developed the lands surrounding the volcanoes.
4. Volcanoes form new land: With the eruption of the volcano lava also gets spread around the volcanic zone this can solidify into new land leading to the development of new islands or adding new land to any continent, Unzen in Japan, Mount St. Helens in the US are some of the examples of this.
Along with the positive impacts, there are some of the negative impacts too which includes,
1. Volcanoes ads Carbon dioxide: With the eruption of volcanoes Carbon dioxide are also being liberated in the atmosphere which results in the increase in the free carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which results in the elevating the earth temperature as this gases act as a greenhouse agent.
2. Volcanoes ads Sulfur dioxide: This is also a greenhouse gas and this too contributes to the increasing our earth temperature.
