Question
I know the equation been obtained from the word sentence above, but how this equation been understood, and this dC/dT--KdecayC doesn't make sense logically (or on its geome tric meaning). How do I approach to the equation? The turnover rate and half-life of mRNA was estimated according to a previously published paper concentration at a given time (dC/dt) is proportional to the constant of mRNA decay (K..) and the mRNA concentration (C), leading to the following equation) s. As actinomycin D treatment results in transcription stallingl the change of mRNA
Explanation / Answer
This equation can be understood from the fact that all decay equations are of the type
C=C0e-kt
If we solve the differential equation
dC/dt = --Kc
dC/c = -Kdt
Hence we get
ln(C/C0) = -Kt and hence C=C0e-kt. This sort of decay is known as exponential decay as the decrease in concentration is exponential in time.
