Question

Please discuss the current environmental policy decisions being made in the Southwest Region of the United States in relation to the conservation status of an endangered or threatened species. Please be sure to discuss recent trends and their relative impact on populations. Are these effects wide-spread, or isolated to certain areas? Do the decisions being made regionally differ from those being made throughout the balance of the species habitat, or are they the same? And lastly, what in your educated opinion, should the management strategies be focusing on in an effort to conserve your chosen species?

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER-

The Endangered species act(ESA) is a law which was first brought in the year 1973 in US brought by then president Ricahrd Nixon to protect the endangered species on the verge of extinction. The act is under the responsibility of US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Maine Fisheries Service(NMFS). The most recent policy was'Interim guidance on implementing the final endangered species species act compensatory mitigation policy(january 17,2017) '.These act is focused on various mitigation programswith multiple strategies including preservation and management of existing functioning habitat ,restoration of degraded habitat, buffering protected areas ,etc. throughout US .The SW America vertebrates and invertebrate species finds their habitat in the vegetation.Changes in vegetation, more broadly plantation may disrupt the ecosystem making it difficult for the species sustaining there.Monitoring of vegetation communities has become a critical component of monitoring in the parks of SW America.Various habitat decline for various species is an anthropogenic effect.Such habitat degradation has led to region wise decline of several rare and listed species such as burrowing owl,black-tailed pairie dog, texas horned lizards, swift fox, etc.The ultimate solution is people should aim for one world ,not local anymore because the Earth and Nature existed much before humans and their intellect which throughout history had endlessly cut the world into pieces.Nature is sustainable only it is biodieversified. The art of learning to maintain balance between environment and urbanization/civilization has to be revised for the sustainabilty of not only the habitats but for humanbeings too.
