Question
I would really appreciate some help with this problem and eventhough it's multiple choice explain it to me because I'mcompletely lost. The number of undergraduates at John Hompkins University isapproximately 2000, while the number at Ohio State University isapproximately 40000. AT both schools a simple random sample ofabout 3% of the undergraduates is taken which of the following isthe best conclusion?
(a) The sample from John Hompkins has less sampling variabilitythan that from Ohio State.
(b) The sample from John Hompkins has more samplingvariability than that from Ohio State.
(c) The sample from John Hompkins has almost thesame sampling variability asthat from Ohio State.
(d) It is impossible to make any statement about the samplingvariability of the two samples since the students surveyed weredifferent.
(e) None of the above. The answer is________.
I wasn't for sure but doesn't sampling variability have to do withstandard error, which you would need a standard deviation, but thenthat doesn't quite make sense which is why I'm asking for help...
Explanation / Answer
The answer would be Abecause the larger the sample the smaller the sampling variability.
