Igneous Rock Inquiry Activity 5.1 Name: Date: Analyae the igncous rocks in Fig. A5.1.1 (and acual rock samples of them if available). They are depicsed at approximatchy same sise as they are in nature. Bencath each picture, describe the rock's color, composition (nhsat it is made ofl, and esture (the sine, shape, and arrangement of its parts) as well as you can, asing your current knowledge Figure A5.1.1 REFLECT & DIScuss Descrile bhow you would caifty he rocks in part A iatdis our classification with your classmates 139Explanation / Answer
[note. rock identification is more better and acuraacc from original rocks than picture]
1. Granodiorite- containing more plagioclase feldspar than orthoclase feldspar.
2. Obsidian- glassy rock
3. Pumice-a very light and porous volcanic rock formed when a gas-rich froth of glassy lava solidifies rapidly
4. Alkali feldspar granite-composed mostly of quartz, Kspar (alkali-feldspar) and sodic plagioclase), where plagioclase is less than 10% of the total feldspar on the QAPF diagram.
5. Granite- Potassium feldspar, plagioclase feldspar, and quartz; differing amounts of muscovite, biotite, and hornblende-type amphiboles.
6. Gabbro--Gabbro is dense, greenish or dark-colored and contains pyroxene, plagioclase, and minor amounts of amphibole and olivine.
