Explanation / Answer
The topic I'am choosing is Overpopulation.
----------------------------------------------
Overpopulation is the scenario where the number of people in the country is more than the resources that is available in the country to meet their needs. Overpopulation is too large to handle and thus it poses many serious problems which is in turn affecting other environment resources. It is the root cause of poverty and poor health. It is putting stress on the available resources and back in economic growth.
There are numerous effect of Overpopulation on our ecosystem. To name few - No clean water due to deposit of lot of non bio-degrable materials that are being scattered in water places. Expansion of urbanisation which is straining on food and water resources, lack of housing facilities and employment opportunities. Burning of fossil fuels leading to global warming and climatic changes. Depletion of ozone layers. Due to urbanisation a lot of forest are destroyed to convert into urban areas fro surviving purposes. Each individual needs around 3000 calories as a balanced diet which is leading to scarcity of food. Overpopulation resulted in shortage of water. Declined economic growth.
To explain in detail:
1. Urbanisation - When compared to rural and urban areas, rural areas has high fertility rate than urban region due to lack of proper education. They lack the knowledge of family planning as well as health care. Overpopulation is pushing animal out of their habitats out of their territory.
2. Carbon dioxide and greenhouse effect - Burning of fossil fuel is emitting CO2 gas in excess which is capturing heat with the atmosphere causing climatic changes and rise in sea level.
3. Scarcity of food - As the number of people are increasing there is more demand on the food production. Overpopulation has managed to eliminate the farmland to urbanisation. 60% of the world's hungry people are farmers and the 20% are landless agricultural workers.
4. Shortage of water - The valuable ecosystem resource is water that has finite rate of supply. It is told that people will have to line up at public traps from 4am to 6am in order to fetch water in cities like Madras from India. The demand for water is faster than population. It is a fact that the number of people are increasing than the water available on this earth which is leading to scarcity.
5. Jobs and social well being - Overpopulation has stressed on jobs and employment leading to the unemployment among youths. Increase in labour supply will lead to decrease in wages. Employment is the key to obtain food, water, heath services, education housing, etc.
Therefore, Overpopulation has posed serious threat to the ecosystem with regards to the above effects mentioned. Humans have not only using the natural resources excessively but they are destroying natural habitants as well. Several community and teams have come up with measures to adopt for calming down the effects of Overpopulation on the environment. But it proved to be inefficient in decreasing the effects. Hence it is appropriate to create awareness programs, educational things in rural regions and impartial sharing of resources must be implemented so that there will be a balance between Overpopulation and the ecosystem resources.
