1) The causes which make the air to rise are:-
A)surface heating and free convection.
B) horizontal convergence of surface air and /or horizontal divergence of air near the top of the troposphere.
C) topography(mountains)
D) uplift along weather fronts.
2) cold fronts associated to surface heating and free convection causes tornadoes.
3) As,the speed of light is much greater than speed of sound we don't consider the time taken by light to travel the distance.
speed of sound in rain=780miles/hr
Time taken by sound to travel= 20sec= 5.55*10^(-3) hr
Distance traveled by the sound wave= 780*(5.55*10^(-3))= 4.34 miles.
