Yes solar renewable energy is used for the power grid in general. It is used for business, domestic purposes similar to thermal energy produced form non renewable source like coal or gas.

Solar energy which is renewable energy can be used for all three types of consumers. Yes this energy is affordable to home owners. Now a days more and more home owners are using solar energy as it is easily available and cheaper energy.

The regions of the country where it is hot climate and have more sunny days is suitable renewable solar energy.
Similarly for hydropower regions with more rainfall are suitable

Solar renewable energy can be used in Central PA. But Central PA is now self sufficient in coal and gas based power. So it is using only 5% of its power requirements from solar energy. But in future it may start using more and more solar energy as it is easily available, cheaper, pollution free and safe energy.
Solar renewable energy is not available throughout the year. In cloudy days and nights the production of solar power not possible. So we have to have solar power saving batteries or alternative power during this period. But modern technology may help to overcome this problem. The future of the world now depending upon solar renewable energy only.
