Dams are are built to protect the beach from river discharge.
Seawalls are never built behind beaches.

Dams are are built to protect the beach from river discharge.
Seawalls are never built behind beaches.
Explanation / Answer
The most dramatic effect of the dams on rivers is that almost 4/5th of sediments get trapped in the reservoir and the sediment load of the rivers is significantly reduced, this leads to less sediment supply to the oceans and sediment supply to the coasts is reduced, the beaches get eroded by the waves as the sediment supply would be less, and ultimately the beaches would collapse.
The anwer is 'less sand will become naturally available to the beach'.
