Please Help! Homework assigned over the weekend and the tutoring center is closed Fri-Sun

A 300-liter tank is initially filled with 250 liters of clue solution with a dye concentration of 4 grams/liter. Pure water flows into the tank at a rate of 3 liters per minute. The well- stirred solution is drained at a rate of 2 liters per minute. Find a formula for the amount of dye in the tank before it gets completely filled with water. Find the concentration of dye in the tank at the time of overflow.

Explanation / Answer

Amount of dye before it gets completly filled

= total volume before flow of pure wayer X concentration of dye before flow of pure water

= 250 liter X 4 grams/liter

= 1000 grams or 1 kg.

concentration of dye at the time of overflow

= total amount of dye/total volume

= 1000 grams/300 liters

= 3.33 grams/liter
