Choose one of the following household bases: baking soda, baking powder, ammonia (please be careful if you use ammonia), liquid soap

Find a small plastic container or a small cup and place a small amount of your chosen acid and chosen base inside. Answer the following questions in 150-200 words:

What acid and base did you choose?

Do you think these are considered weak acids/bases or strong acids/bases?

What do you think will occur when your acid and base are mixed?

What reaction did occur?

Explanation / Answer

I chose vinegar and baking soda.

These are considered as strong acid/bases.

Vinegar ( acetic acid) react with baking soda(sodium bicarbonate) to form sodium acetate and carbonic acid. Because carbonic acid is unstable so it breaks in carbon dioxide and water.

NaHCO3+C2H4O2=NaC2H3O2+H2CO3

H2Co3=H2O+CO2
