Two nurses (Mary and Jane) at the Riverview UCC have decided to work part time. They would like to work only two (consecutive) days per week. Because they would be part-time employees, their salary and benefits per nurse day would be reduced to $160 on weekdays and $220 on weekend days. Riverview could hire an additional full-time nurse if needed. Should Riverview agree to this request? If it does, will it need to hire additional nurses? Solution: - Two nurses (Mary and Jane) want to work part time for two consecutive days. If it is week end days their salary and benefit is reduced to $220. If it is weekdays their salary is reduced by $160.
Riverview could hire an additional full-time nurse if needed
The registered schedule for the nurses are 8 hours per day for 5 days, 10 hrs per day for 4 days or 12 hrs per day for 3 days
Full time work is 40 hrs per week
If Riverview UCC wants 24 X 7 working then they should employ additional staff.
For the nurses they should work 10 hrs /day for 4 days. One of them can work on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at her working place. Other nurse can work on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at her working place. They can spare four working days (Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) to do part time job.
Riverview can employ a pair of nurse to cater for full time job. If it employs Mary and Jane its 40 hrs work will be completed.
Therefore it is recommended that Riverview should employ Mary and Jane. If it does so it will not need more additional nurses.
