Question

I just took my midterm which I failed. Well, I'm assuming I failed because I didn't study, but we haven't received our test scores yet. I wanted to get an idea of my current grade in the class, but I don't know how to figure it out. This is the grading policy:

Quizzes: 10%

Laboratory assignments: 10 %

Out of class assignments: 10%

Midterms: 30%

Final: 40%

There are 2 separate midterms, so I would assume each is 15% equaling up to the 30% shown above. Assuming I get a 100% on everything else, but ended up getting a 40/100 on the first midterm what would my overall grade be? To be honest, I'm not sure how to search for my question because I don't know how to word it properly, but hopefully you understand what I'm talking about. I just need to know the "formula" on how to do this. Am I missing information such as the amount of points? Thanks in advance!

Explanation / Answer

After the semester your grades will be

Grade received in Quizz = 10%

Grades in lab = 10

Grades in assignment = 10

grades in midterm 2 = 15%

grades in final = 40

Now grades in midterm1

you received 40 marks out of 100, and grading policy of your midterm 1 is 15%,

So you will receive = 40*15/100 = 6% marks in midterm1

So total marks received out of 100% = 10 + 10 + 10 + 6 + 15 + 40 = 91%
