Question

Part 1 he question at hand: On average, how many Skittles are in a 2.17 oz. bag? Wrigley's, the maker of Skittles, claims that there is an average of 56 pieces in each 2.17 oz. bag. We will conduct a small study and use our knowledge of confidence intervals from Chapter 16 to determine an interval of reasonable values for the population mean (u). This will approximate the average number of Skittles per bag. 4.) First, we will take a sample. Open a 2.17 oz. bag of Skittles and count the number of Skittles inside. All students will do this, and results from both statistics classes (10:00 and 11:00) will be combined together. Looking at the data for all bags of Skittles on the data sheet provided, we can say thatnPO. (1 pt.) 5.) We are interested in the average number of Skittles in each bag. After compiling all of the data, the sample mean number of Skittles is 6(Round to the nearest whole Skittle.) (1 pt.) (2 pts.) Plase shorw work for your caleulation. 6.) The population standard deviation is given: 6.509. Calculate the sample standard deviation. (3 pts.) Round to two decimal places. Show work for your calculation. 1.03

Explanation / Answer

Part 4, 5 and 6 are already answered.

7.

Let us choose 95% confidence interval

From the z-table, z value for 95% confidence interval is 1.96

Margin of error = z-value * sample standard deviation

= 1.96 * 1.03 = 2.0188

95% confidence interval is given as,

(Sample Mean - margin of error, Sample Mean + margin of error)

(61 - 2.0188, 61 + 2.0188)

(58.9812, 63.0188)
