Question

An epidemiological investigation regarding female registered nurses that work night shift risk for obesity. In this study a panel of 500 RN's (women only) that work full-time only, between ages 40 to 60, from 3 major hospitals in a large city (250 night shift vs 250 day shift) complete questionairres regarding height, weight, hip measurement, amount of sleep daily, and physical activity. This study will compare both shifts and show if there is or is not a risk for obesity for night shift workers.

What type of statistical test is used? (Whitney-Mann U, Logistic Regression, Cross-Sectional or some other) and why?

What are the variables, the basic type of study needed to investigate hypothesis?

Explanation / Answer

Logistic Regression will be used to find out whether the nurses have the risk or no risk for obesity while working in night shifts because Logistic Regression will provide the likelihood of risk for obesity. The variables will be:

Obesity RIsk with two categories: Risk or No Risk

Shift having two categories: Night and Day

Height

Weight

Hip Measurement

Amount of Sleep daily

Physical Activity

The basic type of study needed to investigate the hypothesis is Observational Study.
