Question
Hey- I am trying to solve for theta (for some reason, my browserwont allow me to use the theta symbol so I will use use instead)... The equation is:8cos2 = 7-2sin
I tried bring everything over to one side and trying tomultiply by sin so I could divide out a cos2 to tryto make tangent but it didnt exactly, work..
Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Thanks! Steve The equation is:

Explanation / Answer
Recall that sin2 + cos2 = 1 Therefore, cos2 = 1 - sin2 8 cos2 = 8 - 8sin2 So 8 - 8sin2 = 7 - 2sin 1 - 8sin2 = -2sin 8sin2 -2sin = 1 2sin(4sin - 1) = 1 Intuitively we know that we're looking for a sin that is aclean multiple/divisor of 2. Let's test sin (/6), which we know is 1/2. We know that 2sin /6 = 1. Similarly, 4sin /6 =2. Therefore, 4 sin /6 - 1 = 1. And therefore, (2sin /6) (4sin /6 - 1) = 1 = /6
