8.2 x 10^5 = 820,000 the exponent tells you how many places to the right you move the decimal point

2.45 x 10^4 = 24,500

25,900 = 2.59 x 10^4 I'm assuming you added an extra zero

.039 = 3.9 x 10^-2

.0007 = 7 x 10^-4

not to shabby just remember whole number exponents positive, decimal numbers exponents are negative
