Question

Can someone explain to me what to do here. You don't have to give me answer but if you can explain to me what I should do it will be great. Thanks

You get hired for a new job that will only last for one month (31 days, you work 7 days a week) and you are offered the two following payment plans to choose from:

Plan A: $4,000 per day for the whole month with a $10,000 signing bonus.
Plan B:
$0.01 for day 1
$0.02 for day 2
$0.04 for day 3
$0.08 for day 4
$ 0.16 for day 5
and so on
every day is double the previous days salary,with no signing bonus.

a.) Create two functions that model each of these payment plans, where t is the number of days. (Plan A function, A(t), will respresent what you earn total over the whole 31 days, Plan B's function, B (t), will represent what you earn each individual day.)

b.) Calculate how much you will make in one month of Plan A

c.) Calculate how much you will make on the 3st day of Plan B.

Explanation / Answer

First, I want you to note that Plan A is a liner function (straight line) and Plan B is an exponential function (curved line.) Why is this? Because Plan A gives you the same amount of money every day, no matter what the day, but Plan B keeps doubling the amount of money it's giving you every day.

Plan B: Forumula -> y=2(X-1)

The slope is not measureable as it keeps changing

b.

To solve for how much you will make in one month, substitute 31 for X in formula A

y = 4000(31)+10000

and you get $124,000 + $10,000 -----------> $134,000.00

Seems like a lot doesnt it? :]

c.

To solve for how much you will make in one month, substitue 31 for X in formula B

y =2(31-1) And gyou get y=230

Which equals $10,773,741,824.00 BUT you have to move the decimal over two places as you werent doubling dollars, you were doubling pennies. -------------->$107,737,418.24

WOW! Yea, forget the signing bonus i'll take the doubling pennies! That's over 100 Million!

I hope this helps, good luck with your studies. : ]
