Question

I would really appreciate if someone can help me resolve these two problems. I just want to learn how to resolve them to use that knowledge for future reference. Thank you!

A used car lot has 70 cars. 30 cars have stereo sound systems. 30 cars have AC. 40 cars have sun roofs. 30 cars have at least 2 of the 3 options and 10 have all three options. The number of cars in the lot that have at least one option is

A.30

B.40

C.50

D.60

In a recent survey, 160 students had undergraduate degrees in arts, 63 had undergraduate degrees in science and 97 had graduate degrees. Art undergrads with graduate degree totaled 37 while 16 science undergrads also had graduate degrees. Some students had multiple degrees, 25 had both art and science undergraduate degrees while 16 had both art and science undergraduate degrees with a graduate degree. The number of students with only a science degree was

A. 30

B. 35

C. 47

D. 57

Explanation / Answer

The total number of cars in the lot is = 70
we are given that 10 cars have all the three options namely : stereo,AC and sun roof
and 30 cars have atleast 2 of the three options that is , stereo-AC,stereo-sun roof,AC-sun roof and AC-sun roof-stereo
some cars will have all the three options such cars are = 10
so number of cars with just two options = 30 - 10 = 20

=> Total number of cars with one option will be = 70 - 20 - 10 = 40

option B is correct
