Question
Please help ! A manufacturer of women's apparel is interested in determining if age is a factor in whether women believe they would buy a particular garment. Accordingly, the firm surveyed 140 women in each of three age groups and asked each person to rate the quality of the garment as either excellent, average, or poor. The results follow. a. To determine if there is a relationship between age group and ratings of the quality of the garment, the manufacturer decides to compute a Pearson Correlation. Did the manufacturer make the correct decision? Explain. b. If the manufacturer is incorrect in her decision, what would be a more appropriate statistical analysis? Explain.Explanation / Answer
a.The data is in the form of a Contingency Table. Pearson Correlation is not a correct form to see the relationship between the variables of a contingency table. It measures only the linear relationship between two variables.
b. Chi-square test for contingency table would be an appropriate test to see the independence of the two variables.
