Collisions Prelab Name: Lab day & time: Question: How do the velocity and acceleration of a projectile change over time? Pre-Laboratory Work: Part P-1 Carte Aia Track 1. In this laboratory you will be pushing a cart though a photogate. A photogate operates by sending out an electromagnetic signal (ligh) from one side of the gate and detecting it on the other side. If the signal is blocked by something, the gate measures how long it is blocked. a. How could this be used to measure the speed of a cart? Explain your answer. b. Would you know the velocity of the cart from this measurement? Explain your answer. c. If the answer is no, how will you keep track of the direction as you perform this experiment? (You must show that you have read the experiment in this answer.) Explain your answer.Explanation / Answer
a) we can use the basic speed equation V=S/T. First of all while sending EM signal and receiving the returned signal from other gate total time is calculated we get the time required for determine speed of velocity. Another important thing is distance. In this case the distance means the length of the cart. Using cart length as distance or S and photogate time as T we get V=S/T
b) If we determine the speed with a direction we can get the velocity. If the initial speed of EM signal and direction is known then the returning signal direction can be determined. Then using Vector calculation we get the resultant direction.
2.Data harvest sensor can be used in this case.
