Question
Please answer the following question(s) A, B, C and D showing all work. Thank you!
Who gets interviewed? Abby, Deborah, Mei-Ling Sam, and Roberto are students in a small seminar course. Their professor decides to choose two of them to interview about the course. To avoid unfairness, the choice will be made by drawing two names from a hat. (This is an SRS of size 2.) Write down all possible choices of two of the five names. This is the sample space. The random drawing makes all choices equally likely. What is the probability of each choice? What is the probability that Mei-Ling is chosen-id) Abby, Deborah, and Mei-Ling liked the course Sam and Roberto did not like the course. What is the probability that both people selected like course?Explanation / Answer
Let Abby be represented by A, Deborah be represented by D, Mei ling be represented as M, Sam be represented by S and Roberto by R
a) Sample space = {AD,AM,AS,AR,DM,DS,DR,MS,MR,SR }
Total size of sample space = 10
b) As probability of each pick is equal then probability of each would be = 1 / Total size of Sample space = 1/10 = 0.1
c) Probability that Mei ling is chosen. Mei Ling can be chosen with each of the other 4 . Therefore there are 4 ways that M could be selected.
Therefore required probability = 4*0.1 = 0.4
Therefore 0.4 is the required probability.
d) Now 2 people have to be selected from just 3 options who liked the course that is A,D and M
Therefore these are the ways in which 2 can be selected: AD,AM and DM. Therefore probability of this would be = 3*0.1 = 0.3
Therefore 0.3 is the required probability here.
