Question
Choose one of these and write approximately 500 words 1) Day after day, you find yourself spending hours playing the new video game, Operation: Final Destination. This is a violent video game and your mother warns you that the more you play violent video games, the more aggressive you will become. This makes you wonder if there is a relationship between aggression and violent video games. In today’s activity, you will need to get into groups and talk about the best way to design an experiment to answer the question, “Does playing violent video games increase a person’s level of aggression?” In this example, aggression refers to a behavior, or a disposition, that is forceful, hostile, or attacking. Think about how you will measure aggression in your design.
2)You just won the Design Your Own Survey award. This award provides to you: 1. A budget of $50,000 2. Any resources to complete the survey design and implementation (like a team of door –to-door survey takers or access to contact information). 3. Any location needed to complete the sampling and survey. Your job is to design a survey of at least five questions. You must specify what you are interested in learning from your survey, how the questions you create will help you understand that information and how you plan to obtain, or sample, information from individuals in your population of interest. Think about possible lurking variables for which you may need to take into account
OR
3)You are curious as to whether there is an association with cellphone usage and performance in the classroom. Decide what your population of interest is and how you can obtain a representative sample. Discuss what type of measurement represents “cellphone usage” and “performance in the classroom”. Your job is to design a survey of at least five questions. Think about possible lurking variables for which you may need to take into account. Discuss how you plan to obtain information from individuals. Create a survey that best provides you with the information you need.
Explanation / Answer
2) My objective is to check whether marks obtained by students get affected by the following factors
a)attendance in school
b)average hours of study in a day
c)number of teachers
d)hours of game play in computers
e)number of earning family members
population: students of age group 15 in different schools of a country
sample size=10000
sampling technique:we divide the whole country in 10-12 geographic regions and draw samples with size preoportional to the number of 15 years old students in those regions.the clustering is done to make sure that we get a nice sample with lot of variability so that it captures the true picture os the whole country.
data collection method:
direct interview/questionnaire method
we can also go for online darta collection but then there may be low response rate
questionnaire:
q1)on an average how many days you come to school? will give data on attendance
or,we can directly get the attendance from the school of each students.
q2)how many hours do you study?(don't include school hours) will give data on number of hours studied
q3)how many private teachers do you have? to get data on number of teachers
q4)how much time do you spend in playig computer games? to get data on hours of online play
q5)how many earning members are there in your family? to get idea of family income
q6)how much marks did you get in the last exam?(in %) our dependent variable
the 5th question will give an indication about the economic condition of the student.
note that,no question requires subjective answers and all the simple.they do not have any ambiguity.
these will be collected in presence of interviewers otherwise there may be low response rate.
we see all our independent variables are discrete or continuous.
now we shall see the significance by running suitable regression equation of marks on the 5 variables.
if the coefficients are non significant then the corresponding variable does not affect the marks of the students who are 15 years old
we can also check whether there is any correlatio in the regressors and if there is any then whether it is because of any lurking variables or not.
we can also give options in the questions like for number of teachers 0,1-3,more than 3
but it will be best if we take absolute data
after fitting the model validations should be checked.if we are to assume that the marks follow normal distribution then we should first gofor a normality check of the data
