Question
An animal shelter has a 61% adoption rate for puppies. Of all puppies in the shelter, 77% live to be 7 years of older. Of the puppies who are adopted, 85% live to be 7 years old. What is the probability that a randomly selected puppy in the shelter will get adopted and live 7 or more years? (b) The probability of a can of paint containing contamination is 4 23% The probability of a mixing error in 3.4%, the probability of both is 2.03% What is the probability that a randomly selected can has contamination or a mixing error?Explanation / Answer
Let A be the event that can of paint containing contamination.
B be the event that mixing error.
P(A) = 4.23% = 0.0423
P(B) = 3.4% = 0.034
P(A and B) = 2.03% = 0.023
And we have to find P(A or B).
By using addition rule,
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)
= 0.0423 + 0.034 - 0.0203
= 0.056
