Question
I just need an explanation with the answers on numbers 10-12. Thanks
In a recent advertisement, Gillette claimed that their new Crazy Daisy shaver shaves legs smoother, closer, and safer than any other single-blade disposable razor for women. After shaving each leg with a different razor (Crazy Daisy versus the Lady Bic) according to their own routine, women rated each shaver on smoothness, closeness, and safety. A composite score of those three attributes ranging from 1-10 was used to test for overall average group differences. Assume the experiment was conducted three different times with three different groups of women. Answer the questions for each experiment using the following output. Answer or comment about the following for each experiment. 10. Which number from the output gives the probability of a type-I error that is calculated from the sample data? ____ 11. Was a right, left, or two-tailed test run? A ____ B ____ C ___ 12. Would there be a statistically significant difference between the means if the significance level was set at. 10. A ____ B ____ C ____Explanation / Answer
10) The critical value gives us the value of type 1 error (or the alpha). The critical values are calculated using the zalpha/2 value from the standard normal distribution
11) A. We have 2 critical values indicating we used both adding and subtracting in the mean difference. So it was a Two tail test
B. Only one positive Critical Value indicates that it was a Right Tail test. we would have gotten a Negative CRITICAL VALUE if the test was a left tail test
C. One positive Critical Value is the indicator of a rigjt tail test.
12) Here our alpha is set at 0.10
A. The p value(0.41) is lesser than alpha/2 or 0.05. So, Ho will be rejected and we will say there is a significant difference between the means. (Note - We use alpha/2 in two tail test and alpha in one tail test to comparr with the p value.)
B. The p value(0.12) is greater than 0.10. So, Ho will be accepted and we will say there is no significant difference between the means.(Note - We use alpha/2 in two tail test and alpha in one tail test to compare with the p value.) here we have One tail test
C. The p value(0.597) is lesser than 0.10. So, Ho will be rejected and we will say there is a significant difference between the means
