Can someone explain to me how I do the following in SPSS? I have tried but my numbers do not come out right.

The data set includes the dependent variable for the regression analysis (injury) but does not include the inde-pendent variable, an overall index of body strength. This index can be calculated by creating z scores for the five strength measures and adding them together.

Create the total strength variable named   ztotstr by z-scoring the five individual strength measures and summing them.

Explanation / Answer

do as follows:

Go to analyze----descriptive----descrtiptive---

A dialogyue box appear

Move desired variable to the right

The select the check box "Save standardized variables as variables"

click ok

Then you will see standardized variables in dataset

Then total the variables using Tanrsform---compute variable command
