Question
Bob White is the Human Resource Director at Floratine Shoe Manufacturing Plant. He is trying to determine the practicality of using a selection test as a device to choose final candidates for a Manager position. The correlation and significance levels on each test are given in Table I below. He wants his measurement process to be accurate and consistent to enable him to choose the best candidate for the position. His level of significance required to make a decision requires a test to be at least at the 95% confidence level which means that there are fewer than 5 chances out of 100 of concluding that there is a relationship in the population when, in fact, there is not. Thus he wants a statistically significant test based on the correlation measurement. Analyze the table below and answer the questions. Based on the data given which test would you recommend?

Based on the information in the table above answer the following questions (2 pts each):
a)Which test would you choose for this selection process?
b)Explain the level of confidence you have for the chosen test for answer 1 above and explain why you feel it is the best test to use in this situation.
.
c) If the level of confidence of the test used was increased to 99%, which means that there are fewer than 1 chances out of 100 of concluding that there is a relationship in the population when, in fact, there is not.. If this was applied to the Floratine Shoe Manufacturing Plant which test would you choose? Explain?
d)If the Chief Executive Officer provided another test (Test F). Test F was specifically to test management skills and had an r=.35 and a p < .01 and said she wanted you to use that one for the selection decision what would you tell her about the test reliability?
e)If the manager’s job was suddenly changed with different knowledge and skills were required for the position and Test A &D became obsolete which test (if any) would you consider and why?

Explanation / Answer
(A) I will choose test B for the selection process.
(B) Test B is choosen for the selection process because it has highest correlation factor and a permission failure rate or significane rate of 0.10 so it must be chosen.
(C) in this case, test A shall be chosen as it is the only qualified teset under the given criteria.
(D) As r for this test is 0.35 that means there is very feeble correlation between test and performance and it is mainly effected by envirnonmental factors. So, it is not a relaible test.
(E) If test A & D become obsole then we will choose test B because it has the lowest significance value with a high value of R. Which makes it the best test.
