Question
Can someone please help solve problem #2 please? Answering questions a-d. Figure 4. Number and location of greater short-horned lizards in the sampling frame. Each red circle represents a lizard. Note that lizards were detected in only 2 of the 10 plots surveyed. Let's say you are a wildlife biologist working for the Forest Service on the Mark Twain National Forest. Because you are concerned about the status of collared lizards (Crotaphytus collaris) on the forest, you set up a monitoring program in the northern portion of the Hercules Glades Wilderness Area located in Taney County, Missouri. You are interested in the lizard's abundance. You established a 300m x 100m sampling frame on a glade and divided it into 2 equal-sized strata (Figure 5). Strata 1 is located on the north slope of the glade and strata 2 on the south side. Each strata consists of 30 quadrats. Each quadrat is 10m wide and 150m long. 2.Explanation / Answer
a. We stratify the sampling frame because it is difficult and exhaustive to search the entire population space for lizards. So we randomly choose strata and count lizards and estimate the density to be true for the entirity
b. Within the sampling frame we have 2 lizards in quadrat 3, 0 in quadrat 9 and so on.
c. Within the sampling frame total lizards = (2+0+0+1+1+0+0+1+0+3) = 8
d. Density of lizards = 8 per 10 quadrats or 0.8 per quadrat
