Please Answer Question 2, question 1 only for clarification.
1. A missile is fired from flat ground at an initial velocity of 300 m/s and 30° from origin O in the positive x-direction. There is a constant wind velocity of 2 m/s along the x-axis and in the direction of missile being fired. What is the total time and horizontal distance traveled when the missile lands on the ground ?
2. Consider a second scenario to 1) in which a parachute is deployed by the missile when it reaches a maximum altitude. The parachute deployment results in an additional velocity of 160 m/s acting downwards instead of acceleration due to gravity. What is the maximum altitude reached by the missile ? What is the total time before the missile lands on the ground? Does the parachute prolong the time taken for the missile to land on the ground ?(Yes or No)
Explanation / Answer
2) maximum altitude reached = (u sin theta) ^2 /2g
= (300* sin 30 degree) ^2 /(2*9.8)
= 1148 m
Time = h/v = 1148/160
= 7.175 s answer
Initial time = sqrt(2*1148/9.8) = 15.3s
So parachute does not prolong time.
